mythomod

.it's a wonderful town.

In December 2010, it began. New York City was the epicenter and gods and mortals of bygone days were drawn there. Shadows of their former selves, not all remembered who they were and none knew that their lives had become playthings for Khaos.

In March 2012, following who knows what manner of tug of war (because it is always, always a game), our gods and goddesses, our nymphs and our angels, our mortals and, yes, even our mythical animals were returned to New York City.

They do say it's the city that never sleeps. It is only natural that the city's puppet-master never sleeps, either.

You can try to break the cycle but whether you're Odin All-Father or Zeus Thunderer, whether you're a Queen of Hell or a Queen of Sparta, you will fail. Settle in, instead, and learn to roll with the punches.

Applications open; 8th (23:59 EST) - 16th (23:59 EST) every month.

Mythopoeics started in Dec. 2010 over at livejournal! For previous events, shenanigans and such please look over at our livejournal communities.

.kindred soul cracked spirit. it has to end to begin.
In the beginning, there was Khaos.

From it came everything else, and from everything that Khaos was, gods came. You know them from when they were infinite and absolute - their myths, their stories, their legends.

They weren't supposed to die - but worry not, for death is not an end. Their mortal shells hold their immortal souls, a new beginning each turn of the wheel. They bleed. They die.

Khaos collects.

Deities have been reborn once again as mortals in 2010. Welcome to NYC, the cosmopolitan capital of the world, breathe in that fresh air- enjoy that cup of latte (it may well be your last). Your mortal life has been spent spoiled and rich, insignificant with its ease.

It's time to pay up.

Hey everyone! Maybe someone here will be interested in roleplaying their gods out in the following community. ♥ We're a mythology-based game in which Gods from several pantheons have been reincarnated as mortals. Community based, events happen on a monthly basis which are part of a larger overarching plot trying to answer questions as to why they are no longer gods and such.

What if one day you woke up and realized in a past life you were Thor? Or Set? Or Sir Gawain? And on that day you become a part of something else, something much bigger that has been in play since the dawn of time.

Reserves + Applications + Wanted

We're really looking for more Egyptian, Hindu and Aztec deities. If you have any questions, please PM this journal.

Wondering about a minor deity... [22 Jan 2010|01:42pm]

raven_aniketos
I was wondering if anyone had any extensive information on the minor deity named Aniketos. This is where I got my last name from. All I know about him is that he was partnered up with another minor deity and together they protected forts and citadels and the likes. His name means "unconquerable." That's all that I've managed to find on him, though, and I wanted to know if anyone had any other information on him.

Two questions: Does anyone know of any temples on the East Coast, especially NJ, which worship Ganesh?

Also, what is that avatar of a snake on an egg from? I'm a little tripped out because that very same symbol came to me in a pathworking yesterday.

Thanks!

Caia Caecilia [30 Mar 2006|05:19pm]

I found a new goddess!
Caia Caecilia, or Gaia Caecilia is the deified Roman queen Tanaquil- Roman goddess of fire, the hearth, healing, women associated with Lares (ancestor spirits) prophecy, land, queenship
The woman herself seems like a very strong and admirable figure. She may have been assimiliated into an earlier goddess named Caia. Very interesting.

I've started to research Scots-Celt mythology (and believe me, it's tough!), and I've come across something I need help with. Most of the sources I find say that Gruagach is a kind of mischevious faery, but according to the Encyclopedia Mythica, Gruagach is a sun god. Help?

Can anyone give me information about Brit-Celt or Scot-Celt deities? Irish-Celt and Welsh-Celt are all I can ever find, and I'm curious.

Also, I've been told that both Hecate (or Hekate, if you prefer) and Dionysus are "older" than what we commonly think of as the Greek pantheon (as in, they were worshipped and known in the area before that particular pantheon emerged). Any one have information that-wise, either to in/validate the claim, or about those dieties before they became attached to the commonly known Greek pantheon?

Thanks much.

Hello [30 Nov 2004|12:33pm]

Hello everyone...I am a general mystic with roots in Paganism...I follow a path generally influenced by classical Paganism (Plato, Pythagoras, Dionysis, etc). I have been studying paganism for over 15 years now. I don't have a date I consider the start of my "Pagan path" bc as a mystic, I draw inspiration from many religions, not just Paganism, and so it's all mixed up in me.

My patroness is The Shekhina and I am also called to Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom.

hi, i just joined. briefly, i was raised in a Traditional Gardnerian Wiccan household. i hae had training toward an initiation onto that path, but due to circumstances beyond my control, that option is no longer open to me. i am currently in the very beginning stages of developing my own system of practice that will be heavily influenced by the Traditionalist views and beliefs i have been taught. as such, i thought it prudent to learn as much about as many deities as possible, so i'm here.

and just a side note (and if this isn't allowed, the mod(s) just need to let me know), i run a Pagan/Wiccan/Witchy/Occult/etc. graphics community, art_of_spirit. thought some of you may be interested. also, i have a spirituality journal, nichneven that anyone here is free to browse.

glad to be here.

I need some info/advice! :-D [23 Jun 2004|11:26am]

angelix_1x2
I need some advice/information, everyone! :-)
I just recently decided to start working with patrol deities and I could use some help/advice...

Due to certain life circumstances and events, Persephone (I feel) has been in my life longer than I've ever been able to define.

I have for the last 11 years, been practicing under the beliefs of not naming my deities and simply just referring to Them as God and Goddess. I felt like I didn't want to limit that which is limitless.

On that note: I wanted to futher expand myself spiritually and have decided to work with Persephone and 'adopt' her as my Patroness.

I feel as if she adopted me years ago though.

With that being said: does anyone know any good rituals used to contact her and develop a relationship with her? I am very new to the naming of deities so, please bear with me.

I have tried using my own rituals - written with her in mind, symbolism and myth taken into consideration - and yet, I feel that to 'jumpstart' our relationship, I should go with something more traditional.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Speaking of the Goddesses. . . [27 Apr 2004|03:59pm]

Hi! I'm Rhiannon (for real, you can even check my birth certificate) and I am incredibly interested in ancient mythology and am currently a Wiccan. I am always trying to find new information on the gods/goddesses I already know a little about. Currently I am in search of information concerning Freya and Hectate. I am currently making some headway, but not much.

Just a little info on me: I am a college soph in Indiana, double majoring in Fashion Design and French. I am pretty active with my college in various activities. I have been researching Wicca for about 6 years, but only recently have I gotten the urge to practice. I think She is telling me that the time is good to start now **shrugs**.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group.

Looking for Legends [06 Apr 2004|01:23pm]

Hello! I'm a newcommer here. I found this place because I'm looking for legends that'd make a great comic/manga. I'm wanting it (my comic) to be fantasy/adventure based so traveling is a must haha. Anywhoo some stories I was thinking about is The Journey To The West (which is already used with Saiyuki), the Norse belief of Ragnarok and of course Revelations of the Christian Bible. However, all of these have been used multiple times. Anyone else know of some good legends that'd play out to a cool manga/comic/graphic novel series? Much help is appreciated! Sankyuu!
